The cold and snow brought a bit of chaos, with many schools, roads, and airports closing. Some towns were unprepared for the extreme weather and were left without enough salt to clear the roads. Because of the shortage a fleet of lorries is driving through the freezing temperatures and snow to deliver 12,000 tonnes of salt to thaw out the roadways.
