Last Friday, the uShip team was honored to host Dutch Ambassador Rudolf Bekink at our Austin headquarters. The visit highlights the growth of our European headquarters in Amsterdam and our increasing presence in the European Union.
During the visit, uShip VP of Global Business Shawn Bose explained why our Netherlands-based team is key to our growth: “We chose Amsterdam as our European base with strategy in mind. We’ve hired multilingual employees from all over Europe, including Holland, the UK, Spain and Germany. It’s really the ideal business environment for fast-growing tech companies in need of talent. And thankfully for us, it happens to be one of the most important regions in Europe for the logistics industry.”
Bose went on to explain how uShip’s E.U. operations are indicative of a more global tech business environment in Texas: “As the first Internet-based business from Austin
to open European headquarters in the Netherlands, we feel it is important to share our
experience. With so many companies like ours looking to establish a global presence, I encourage them to explore the advantages of operating there.”
The Ambassador’s first official visit to Texas included meetings with Governor Rick Perry, the Mayor of Houston, and officials from the Port of Houston Authority. The Dutch Embassy outlined several key discussions for the visit, including strengthening ties between Texas and its 8th-largest international trade partner, and bringing Dutch water management and coastal protection expertise to the Texas coast.
