Faulty GPS directions are causing hundreds of trucks to hit low overpasses in New York, according to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).
Apparently, 200 bridge accidents per year have occurred in New York state since 2005 Schumer wrote in a letter sent yesterday to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
Schumer wants the U.S. Department of Transportation to look into what’s causing the problem and for GPS technology and devices in trucks to adopt some sort of national standards.
New York State DoT records show the accidents have resulted in $4.1 million in repairs on the Long Island Expressway in recent years.
