Late legendary comedian George Carlin satirized American’s obsession with their “stuff” in his hilarious skit from the 1980s. He claims that the whole meaning of life is based on the collecting, moving and storing of your stuff.
At no time is this notion more pronounced then when you move from your house (what Carlin calls “a pile of stuff with a cover on it”), often realizing you have too much stuff – so you have to put stuff in storage. In Carlin’s words, “Imagine that. There’s a whole industry based on keeping an eye on your stuff!”
With moving and storage being so closely tied together – we see this across many of our categories like household goods, antiques, boats, cars and even business moves – uShip has created uShip Self Storage, powered by fellow Austin startup and self-storage marketplace SpareFoot.
uShip Self Storage is tightly incorporated into uShip’s current online listing process, appearing where uShip members naturally require self-storage units as part of their move. They can now browse through thousands of online local storage facilities, comparing real-time pricing, unit sizes and availability, as well as location, photos and customer reviews. Once a customer locates the ideal unit, they simply book it through uShip Self Storage for free.
So now, enjoy Carlin’s classic routine, in which he mentions the word “stuff” 60 times over a span of 5 minutes.
