Truck-only lanes… A good idea?

Several states (NV, IN, OH, IL, MS) have proposed adding truck-only lanes to congested highways. These states argue that truck-only lanes will help reduce congestion and accidents, while increasing commerce.

However, some truckers and transportation companies are opposed to these special lanes, because they will most likely be funded by added tolls and taxes. Critics also question whether or not these lanes will actually speed up transit time. Some argue that truck-only lanes will allow slower trucks to hold up others, and that designing effective transitions in and out of these lanes will be difficult.

Are the benefits of adding truck-only lanes worth the extra expense to trucking companies? As always, we are interested in hearing your thoughts…
